The bag does the job beautifully on its own. The accessories are there if you want to add to it, whether that's keeping a drink cold on the go or just having a spare for someone else.

They're built to be spill-resistant, with a silicone seal and no leak holes, and in our own testing they held up without leaking. That said, they're not designed to be tipped upside down or thrown around like a fully sealed travel bottle, so we wouldn't promise they're leakproof in every situation. For everyday use though like when you're walking, travelling in the car, enjoying a sunset picnic - they stay put and stay sealed.
